Bryson DeChambeau will try to build on his winning performance at the Arnold Palmer Invitational as he prepares to tee off at this year’s edition of the Players Championship as a strong +1200 wager on the tournament odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
DeChambeau outlasted Lee Westwood in an entertaining final-round duel to claim his first tournament win since his victory at the U.S. Open, and he now sits atop the FedExCup standings heading into the first round of this event on Thursday morning at TPC Sawgrass.
DeChambeau also vaulted five spots on the World Golf Rankings with this past weekend’s victory, and he has finished among the top ten in four of seven overall outings this season. Now deadlocked alongside defending tournament winner Rory McIlroy on the Players Championship odds, DeChambeau has work to do to improve on his previous performances at this event, where he has finished no better than 20th in two career appearances.
McIlroy had hoped to turn the corner last weekend on what has so far been a disappointing season. However, the 31-year-old steadily lost ground after seizing a share of the lead on the first day, eventually falling off the pace while shooting a final-round 76 that forced him to settle for a share of 10th place. That marks a step back for McIlroy, whose sixth-place performance at the WGC-Workday Championship two weeks ago marked his lone finish better than 10th at a non-major tournament so far this season.
After taking this past weekend off, Dustin Johnson gets set to pursue his first career victory at the Players Championship as a narrow +1100 favourite at online betting sites. Johnson remains firmly perched atop the World Golf Rankings despite his performance last time out at the WGC-Workday Championship.
Hobbled by shaky outings in both the first and final rounds, the 36-year-old settled for a share of 54th place at The Concession, which marked his worst 72-hole finish since 2019. However, Johnson has otherwise been dominant since the PGA Tour resumed play last June, posting four victories, including his first career win at the Masters, and he is looking to build on a fifth-place finish at this event two years ago.
Further down the golf odds for this week’s event, Jon Rahm trails the favourites at +1400, followed by Patrick Cantlay at +1800. Four players are knotted at +2000 odds, including Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele, 2018 Players Championship winner Webb Simpson, and WGC-Workday Championship winner Collin Morikawa.
Other notables on the the Players Championship futures for this week include previous tournament winner Jason Day at +4000, and Corey Connors, who sits as a +8000 wager to become the first Canadian to win this tournament since Stephen Ames back in 2006.
