Dustin Johnson will be looking to follow up on his FedExCup championship earlier this month with another strong effort when he tees off later this week as the +800 betting favourite on the U.S. Open odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Johnson has reclaimed his perch atop the World Golf Rankings while finishing in the top two in each of his past four outings, and he will be looking to claim his second career major tournament win when the action gets underway on Thursday morning in the 120th edition of the U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York.
After struggling early on this season, Johnson rediscovered his groove at last month’s PGA Championship, where he finished deadlocked in second place. The 36-year-old American carried his strong play into the FedExCup playoffs, earning the win at The Northern Trust and recording a second-place result at the BMW Championship before raising the trophy with a dominating victory in the TOUR Championship.
Overall, Johnson has three tournament victories to his credit since the PGA Tour resumed in June, and he has been a fixture at or near the top of the leaderboard in recent editions of the U.S. Open. Johnson has finished among the top five in four of his past six U.S. Open appearances, including his victory at this event in 2016.
Jon Rahm sits second to Johnson on the U.S. Open odds at +950 at sports betting sites, ahead of Justin Thomas at +1200. Xander Schauffele follows at +1400, while this year’s PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa joins 2011 U.S. Open winner Rory McIlroy at +1600.
Rahm has been a standout in recent weeks, posting wins at both the Memorial Tournament and the BMW Championship, and he closed out the FedExCup playoffs with a fourth-place result at the TOUR Championship. The 25-year-old Spaniard also enjoyed a breakthrough at last year’s U.S. Open, finishing third after missing the cut the previous two years.
A three-time winner on the PGA Tour this season, Thomas overcame a shaky start to challenge Johnson for the FedExCup title, capped by a second-place performance at the TOUR Championship. However, Thomas has cracked the top ten just once while missing the cut twice in five previous U.S. Open appearances.
Morikawa has produced mixed results since earning his first major tournament victory at the PGA Championship. The 23-year-old subsequently missed the cut at The Northern Trust, and was forced to settle for a share of 20th place at the BMW Championship before rebounding to finish sixth at the TOUR Championship.
Other notables on the odds to win the U.S. Open include 2012 champion Webb Simpson, who joins Bryson DeChambeau at a line of +2500, while Tiger Woods lags as a +4000 wager.
