Johnson, Rahm the leaders on TOUR Championship odds

Dustin Johnson fell just short of a second straight victory last weekend, falling to defeat at the BMW Championship in a playoff against Jon Rahm. However, with his lead intact atop the FedExCup standings, Johnson continues to lead the way as the favourite on this weekend’s TOUR Championship odds at +200 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Currently listed as the world’s top-ranked golfer, Johnson has rediscovered his touch since missing the cut at the Memorial Tournament, posting top-two finishes in his past three outings going into opening round action of the 2020 TOUR Championship on Friday morning at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

After marching to a second-place finish at the PGA Championship, Johnson turned in an epic performance in his victory at The Northern Trust. With his continued steady play at the BMW Championship, Johnson now has four top-two finishes to his credit so far this season. The 36-year-old will be rewarded for his strong play this weekend. As the current leader in the FedExCup standings, Johnson will start this weekend’s season finale at a score of minus-10.

Now sitting second in the FedExCup standings following his thrilling victory last weekend, Rahm will tee off at the TOUR Championship sitting second to Johnson at a score of minus-8. However, that tournament-opening deficit has not dampened Rahm’s position on the TOUR Championship odds, where he sits as a +300 second favourite at online sports betting sites.

The 25-year-old Spaniard has endure a roller coaster season, particularly since the PGA Tour resumed in June, finishing 27th or worse in five of nine outings. However, Rahm has risen to the occasion at big events. In addition to last weekend’s win, Rahm also earned the win at the Memorial Tournament, and showed steady improvement on his way to a sixth-place finish at The Northern Trust.

Further down the golf odds for this weekend, Justin Thomas sits at +600, ahead of Webb Simpson at +1200, while reigning FedExCup champion Rory McIlroy joins this year’s PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa at +2000.

Crowned as the FedExCup champion three years ago, Thomas enters the TOUR Championship in third place on the FedExCup standings. However, the 27-year-old has struggled since his most recent win at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, finishing a distant 37th at the PGA Championship, and has so far been a non-factor in the first two events of the FedExCup playoffs.

Simpson passed on last weekend’s BMW Championship after finishing sixth at The Northern Trust, but maintains control of fourth place in the FedExCup standings, and will start this weekend’s tournament at minus-6.
