Brooks Koepka wins ‘The Match’ with rout over Bryson DeChambeau

It was a clean sweep for Brooks Koepka in “The Match” as the four-time major champion delivered a decisive 4-and-3 victory Friday over rival Bryson DeChambeau at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas.

Koepka, who scored four birdies, led 4-up with four holes remaining in the 12-hole, winner-take-all match play contest for charity.

DeChambeau missed a birdie putt on the ninth hole and conceded.

The feud between Koepka and DeChambeau had been brewing for years on the green and on social media — such as when DeChambeau chirped Koepka’s lack of abs in ESPN’s The Body Issue during a Twitch stream in January 2020 — but things escalated during PGA Championship in May.

A video leaked online featuring Koepka in the midst of an interview when DeChambeau suddenly walked past him talking loudly. Koepka appeared annoyed, closed his eyes and said he “lost his train of thought.”

Fans also got in on the fun the following month during the Memorial tournament yelling “Brooksie” at DeChambeau, who had a few of the hecklers ejected.

Things seemed to have simmered between the two when they teamed up for the Ryder Cup and hugged during the victory celebration.

It was the fifth time “The Match” has been held with previous editions featuring Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson, Woods and Peyton Manning vs. Mickelson and Tom Brady, Mickelson and Charles Barkley vs. Stephen Curry and Manning, and DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers vs. Mickelson and Tom Brady.
