HARRIS, Mich. — Canada’s Brooke Henderson shot an opening round 2-under 70 on Friday at the Island Resort Championship to sit tied for 17th.
It was the first round for the Smiths Falls, Ont., native as an official member of the Symetra Tour.
"I didn’t play my best today," Henderson said. "It was a little bit up-and-down. I started off with a bogey on the first hole but was able to bounce back and finish 2-under, which I’m happy about.
"I still have a lot of work to do but I’m excited to be out here as an official member of the Symetra Tour and to compete against these players."
Henderson had birdies on the 11th and 14th to finish her round at Sweetgrass Golf Club.
After winning the Four Winds Invitational last weekend, the 17-year-old petitioned to waive the minimum age requirement and was granted Symetra Tour membership by LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan.
Lee Lopez and Lauren Doughtie of the United States along with Italy’s Giulia Molinaro and Sweden’s Dani Holmqvist all share the lead at 5-under.
