‘The drought is over’: Canada reacts to Nick Taylor’s incredible win on home soil

Winning the Canadian Open after a four-hole playoff against Tommy Fleetwood, Canada’s Nick Taylor ended a drought that lasted 69 years.

After sinking a jaw-dropping 72-foot putt to make eagle, Taylor officially became the first countryman to win the tournament since Pat Fletcher in 1954.

Immediately, the crowd at Oakdale Golf and Country Club erupted in response to the Abbotsford, B.C. native’s historic victory. The celebrations were quick to pour in on social media, as well, with viewers at home left just as speechless by the winning putt.

The victory marked Taylor’s third on the PGA Tour and first since 2020. It comes one day after Taylor broke Oakdale’s course record by posting a nine-under 63. Sunday’s win saw him card a 66 to finish 17-under for the tournament before his playoff win.

Here is a look at some of the reactions on Twitter to Taylor’s heroic efforts.
