CHARLOTTETOWN — World No. 1 Team Rachel Homan of Ottawa is through to the semifinals in the HearingLife Tour Challenge.
Team Homan advanced with a 5-3 win over South Korea’s Team Eun-jung Kim of South Korea during the women’s quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at the Bell Aliant Centre.
The 15-time Grand Slam of Curling champion Homan set the pace by scoring three in the opening end. Homan was up 4-1 in the fifth but wrecked on her last allowing Kim to capitalize with a hit and roll for a deuce to close within one.
After Homan added another point in the sixth, Kim blanked the seventh to retain the hammer coming home but never got the chance to throw her last one. Homan pulled off a precise double takeout on her first skip stone then made a thin takeout with her second shot to run Kim out of rocks.
Team Homan will play Team Kaitlyn Lawes in the semifinals. The Winnipeg club ousted Italy’s Team Stefania Constantini 5-2.
Team Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Man., and Japan’s Team Satsuki Fujisawa meet in the other semifinal matchup.
Einarson advanced with a 6-1 win over Sweden’s Team Isabella Wranå and Fujisawa eliminated South Korea’s Team Eun-ji Gim 9-6.
