The Nottingham Panthers honoured before Sunday's game against the Manchester Storm with a 47-second ovation tribute.
Johnson died on Oct. 28 of last year from a cut he received from an opponent's skate blade during a game against the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite Hockey League.
A post-mortem examination confirmed he died as a result of a fatal neck injury, police said. A police investigation remains ongoing.
The specific length of the ovation was to honour the No. 47 Johnson wore with the Panthers.
Johnson, a native of Grand Rapids, Minn., had previously played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL and was in his first season playing for the Panthers.
