The Buffalo Beauts of the Premier Hockey Federation officially announced the signing of Mikyla Grant-Mentis to a one-year contract Monday morning.
The deal, which was reported on Saturday by Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek, is a landmark contract for a women's hockey player, paying Grant-Mentis $80K USD with 10 per cent of the amount as bonus.
Marek reported on a 32 Thoughts Hockey Night in Canada segment that various Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association players have inquired to PHF teams about joining their ranks.
Grant-Mentis, who is the first Black player to win the Premier Hockey Federation MVP award, started her professional career with the Beauts in 2019-20. She spent the last two seasons with the Toronto Six. The 23-year-old from Brampton recorded 30 points (13 goals, 17 assists) in 19 games for the Six in the 2021-22 PHF season.
