Some of the top players in professional women's hockey will be showcased as part of Sportsnet's annual coverage of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada in January.
The Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA)'s Dream Gap tour will make a stop in Owen Sound, Ont., — hosts of Hockey Day in Canada — with Team Scotiabank taking on Team Adidas. The game — featuring stars Rebecca Johnston and Blayre Turnbull representing Team Scotiabank, and Sarah Nurse and Kendall Coyne Schofield on Team Adidas — will take place on Jan. 21 at Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, home of the OHL's Owen Sound Attack, and will be broadcast on Sportsnet live beginning at 11 a.m. ET/ 8 a.m. PT.
The game will kick-off Sportsnet's marathon 14.5-hour broadcast of Hockey Day in Canada, hosted by Ron MacLean from Owen Sound. The broadcast will feature games involving all seven Canadian NHL teams in action across Sportsnet, Sportsnet 360, Citytv, SN NOW, OMNI, and CBC, as well as a variety of special guests and features to promote the growth of inclusion and diversity in hockey as part of Scotiabank’s hockey for all initiative.
“Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada is all about celebrating and growing the sport by sharing inspiring stories from across the country, and showcasing hockey’s best on a national stage,” said Bart Yabsley, President, Sportsnet. “Welcoming the PWHPA into the fold is a natural evolution for the event and a perfect way to kick off the full-day broadcast on Sportsnet.”
The PWHPA Dream Gap Tour will also make a stop at Eddie Bush Memorial Arena in Collingwood, Ont., that weekend with three games on Jan. 21-23. All four games will count in the PWHPA regular season standings.
“The PWHPA is thrilled to be part of the 2023 Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada festivities” said Jayna Hefford, PWHPA Operations Consultant. “This season, our Secret® Dream Gap Tour has produced incredibly competitive games, and competition that features the best players in the world going head to head each game. We’re excited that Scotiabank, Secret® and Sportsnet are providing such a great platform for our players and our sport. We can’t wait to get to Owen Sound to kick off the event.”
