Former NHLer Jaromír Jágr continues to put middle-aged men to shame. The future Hockey Hall of Famer played in his first Czech Extraliga game of the season at age 51 on Wednesday, collecting an assist along the way.
Kladno, for which Jágr is both owner and president of, took on league-leading Pardubice, falling behind 3-0 early. Jágr helped set up Kladno’s first goal when he banked a shot off the far pad of Pardubice goalie Milan Kloucek, which teammate Jakub Strnad then popped into the net.
Kladno, which is Jágr’s hometown team, scored twice more to tie the game, but ultimately lost, 4-3.
Jágr finished with the lone assist to go with a penalty, two shots on goal, and was plus-2 in 13:52 of ice time.
Jágr has been playing for Kladno (7-13-6 this season) since 2017, after a 1,733-game NHL career that saw him win two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins, with others stops in Washington, N.Y. Rangers, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston, New Jersey, Florida, and Calgary. His 1,921 career NHL points are second only to Wayne Gretzky’s 2,857.
The Penguins are set to retire Jagr’s No. 68 on Feb. 18.
