Kitchener’s Fanelli leaves intensive care

Kitchener Rangers defenseman, Ben Fanelli has been moved from Hamilton General Hospital’s intensive care unit to a private room in, the team announced Thursday.

His medical status remains unchanged.

Medical testing continues and a no visitor policy is in effect.

On Wednesday, the Ontario Hockey League suspended Michael Liambas for the balance of the 2009-10 season including the playoffs.

Liambas was suspended indefinitely Friday night after hitting 16-year-old Fanelli, a hit that resulted in the Kitchener Rangers defenceman suffering a fractured skull and orbital bone.

In a release, the Fanelli family and the Rangers organization again thanked the many people who have expressed their concerns and wishes for Ben’s recovery.

The team added further updates will be made by the Kitchener Rangers when they become available.
