TORONTO — The Peterborough Petes dealt two of their top players Thursday prior to the Ontario Hockey League trade deadline.
The Petes moved first-round draft pick Slater Koekkoek and fellow NHL prospect Alan Quine as the struggling team looked to stockpile future picks.
Koekkoek, the 2012 first-round pick (10th overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning, was the Petes’ captain. He was dealt to Windsor for centre Michael Clarke and two second-round selections.
Koekkoek, a six-foot-two, 186-pound defenceman, has 28 points (six goals, 22 assists) in 40 games with the Petes this season. His chances to make the OHL playoffs this season don’t improve dramatically as he goes from the ninth-place team in the Eastern Conference to the No. 9 squad in the Western Conference.
Clarke, a fifth-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche, has 36 points (15 goals, 21 assists) and 81 penalty minutes in 68 games this season.
Quine, a third-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings, was traded to Belleville for three second-round picks. Quine had 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists) in 26 games with the Petes this season and joins a Bulls team that’s second in the Eastern Conference, four points behind Barrie.
Also on Thursday, the Colts obtained defencemen Jake Dotchin from the Owen Sound Attack for third-, fourth- and fifth-round picks. A 2012 sixth-round selection of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Dotchin has 16 points (two goals, 14 assists) in 38 games this season.
