In the last episode of the season, Jeff and Sam preview the road to the Mastercard Memorial Cup. They discuss who will win the wide open WHL, Blainville-Boisbriand in the ‘Q’ and the why the OHL title is the Soo’s to lose.
BLOCK 1
• The guys promote Sportsnet’s coverage of the Mastercard Memorial Cup from Regina which gets underway in May.
• Previewing the QMJHL playoffs, Jeff and Sam talk about Blainville-Boisbriand is the top team and Acadie-Bathurst as their biggest challenger. Rimouski and Halifax also get mentioned as serious contenders.
BLOCK 2
• Saskatchewan teams have dominated WHL talk this season, but one of Regina, Moose Jaw or Swift Current will be gone after the second round. Prince Albert might be the hottest team going into the playoffs.
• Don’t count out the US teams. Everett is the top team from south of the border and is led by the best goalie in the CHL, Carter Hart.
• In B.C., Kelowna is the experienced one in the mix, while Victoria has impressed this season as well.
BLOCK 3
• In the OHL, it’s the Soo Greyhounds’ J. Ross Robertson Cup to lose. Can anyone in the Western Conference challenge them? Perhaps Sarnia?
• Hamilton is the top team in the Eastern Conference, but could run into problems with Oshawa. The Bulldogs’ head coach Jon Gruden might be the best story in the CHL after all the stuff he went through last season in Flint.
• Sportsnet’s final Saturday Showcase features the Mississauga Steelheads and Niagara Ice Dogs, which could determine if Niagara starts the OHL playoffs with home-ice advantage.
