SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Boris Katchouk’s short-handed goal into an empty net late in the third period stood as the winner as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds beat the Kitchener Rangers 4-2 on Saturday to take a 2-0 lead in their Ontario Hockey League conference final.
Katchouk’s winner was his second goal of the game. He also scored 7:50 into the third to put Sault Ste. Marie up 2-1. Morgan Frost and Taylor Raddysh added the other goals.
Adam Mascherin and Logan Stanley scored for the Rangers, who will host Game 3 on Monday.
Greyhounds goaltender Matthew Villalta made 34 saves. Kitchener’s Mario Culina stopped 28 shots.
Neither team scored on the power play. Sault Ste. Marie was 0 for 1 while the Rangers went 0 for 4.
