BOUCHERVILLE, Que. — Saint John Sea Dogs forward Bokondji Imama was suspended for 15 games by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Sunday for his actions in an 8-5 loss to the Halifax Mooseheads on Friday night.
Imama and Kelly Bent of the Mooseheads were ejected after receiving aggressor penalties late in the second period of the game. Imama came on to the ice to fight after a dustup near the Saint John bench.
"As an organization, we fully support Boko through this difficult situation," Sea Dogs general manager Darrell Young said in a statement. "He sacrificed himself to come to the aid of a young teammate. Once again he proved to be the ultimate teammate and team comes first with us. Boko will be a big loss for our hockey club. He is valuable member of our team both on and off the ice.
"This will be an important month for his personal development. We will do everything possible to ensure he is in the best possible shape physically, mentally and emotionally for his return to the lineup at the end of January."
Bent was also ejected after the incident. He was handed a five-game suspension by the QMJHL on Sunday.
