Raphael Lavoie scores OT winner as QMJHL beats Russia

The QMJHL beat Russia 4-3 in overtime to take game 2 of the CIBC Canada Russia series.

MONCTON, N.B. – Raphael Lavoie scored his second goal of the night 1:58 into overtime as Quebec beat Russia 4-3 on Tuesday in Game 2 of the annual Canada-Russia Series.

Nathan Legare and Dawson Mercer also scored for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League all-stars, who were toppled 4-3 by the Russians a night earlier in the series opener.

Egor Sokolov, Dmitry Zavgorodniy and Maxim Groshev found the back of the net for Russia, which heads west to face an Ontario Hockey League squad for the next two games of the six-game set.

Olivier Rodrigue made 25 saves for the win as Amir Miftakhov stopped 30-of-34 shots in defeat.

The OHL hosts Russia on Thursday at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium for the first of two meetings. Russia will also play a two-game set against a Western Hockey League team to wrap up the series.
