The Saint John Sea Dogs have hired Josh Dixon as their new head coach.
Dixon served as an assistant coach for the WHL’s Regina Pats for three seasons before joining the Swift Current Broncos as an associate coach for the 2014-15 campaign. The 34-year-old spent the past two years as the director of player development for talent and sports agency CAA.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for me,” Dixon said in a release. “I’m grateful to Mr. McCain, Trevor Georgie and the board of directors for giving me this chance. I’m also grateful to my wife and family for allowing me to pursue my goal and my dream job, and to J.P. Barry and Pat Brisson at CAA for helping prepare me.
“I’m looking forward to continuing the tradition of excellence and empowerment that the Sea Dogs have been known for throughout their history.”
A native of Oakville, Ont., Dixon has been an assistant coach with men’s and women’s university hockey programs at multiple Canadian schools and led Team Saskatchewan at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
Saint John also announced Jeff Cowan has been promoted to associate coach. Cowan had been an assistant coach with the club for four seasons and led the team through training camp this year.
Former head coach Danny Flynn stepped down in July after guiding the Sea Dogs to the QMJHL’s President Cup in 2016-17.
