HALIFAX — Tempers boiled over between the Saint John Sea Dogs and Halifax Mooseheads after a dust up involving Sea Dogs forward Joseph Veleno, the first QMJHL exceptional status player.

The incident began when Moosheads overager and resident super-pest Kelly Bent hit Veleno along the boards and the two players got in a shoving match.

Saint John’s Bokondji Imama came off the bench to Veleno’s defence going after Bent following the hit. Linesmen had both players wrapped up, but Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Imama continued swinging.

Imama received an aggressor penalty, aggressor game misconduct and an additional game misconduct for leaving the bench to fight.

Saint John head coach Danny Flynn refused to comment to Sportsnet.ca until he reviews video of the incident.

On the Halifax side, Bent received two aggressor penalties and a double game misconduct.

Halifax went on to win the game 8-5.
