Rimouski Oceanic forward Alexis Lafreniere will miss the upcoming CHL Canada-Russia series with an injury.
Lafreniere, who had been named the QMJHL team’s captain, will not be replaced on the roster for their two games in the series.
No further details on the specifics of his injury, or how much time he may miss, have been confirmed by Rimouski at this time.
Lafreniere, 18, is expected to be one of the first players taken in the 2020 NHL Draft.
In 18 games with the Oceanic this season, the Saint-Eustache, Que., native has 12 goals and 43 points.
The CHL Canada-Russia series begins this week with the QMJHL hosting Russia in Moncton, N.B., Monday and Saint John, N.B., Tuesday. The series will then shift to Ontario where a team of OHL players will host Russia on Thursday in Kitchener and on Nov. 11 in London. The series will then conclude with two games featuring a team from the WHL on Nov. 13 in Saskatoon and Nov. 14 in Prince Albert, Sask.
