The Boston Bruins‘ trade deadline started paying off, a New Jersey Devils star continued his streak and one of the best defenceman in the league reached an impressive milestone.
Here are three things we learned in the NHL.
New Bruins players get Boston excited
The newest members of the Bruins put some smiles on the faces of their fans on Tuesday night.
Rick Nash got Boston on the board 11:41 into the first period, drawing the team even with the Carolina Hurricanes, and Tommy Wingels — a late trade-deadline addition — scored the lone goal of the second period to also pull the two teams even before the Bruins eventually won 4-3 in overtime. Both goals were the first the players scored for their new team.
Nash’s goal was the 800th point of his illustrious career, during which he has potted 435 goals and added 365 helpers. Interestingly enough, Nash wasn’t the only Nash to score for the Bruins. Nor was he the only R. Nash, or Ri. Nash for that matter. Riley Nash scored in the dying seconds of the first period and added an assist on the overtime winner.
In case you were wondering, both players wear “Nash” on their jersey.
Rick Nash was also making plays in his own zone when he made a highlight-reel save with one hand on his stick, peeling the puck off his own goal-line. That’s two good ways to earn the respect of your new teammates.
Hall’s point streak continues and may never end
Taylor Hall has been dominating the ice recently, sporting the best point streak of his career and he didn’t take long to extend it on Tuesday.
Midway through the first period he picked up an assist on Kyle Palmieri‘s opening tally, pushing his personal point streak to 22 games (officially 15 games due to some time missed with injury).
Hall put home his 27th of the year later in the second period giving him 15 goals and 17 assists over the stretch.
Karlsson hits milestone
In the third period of the Ottawa Senators‘ game against the Washington Captials, Erik Karlsson fired home his sixth goal of the season, and his second point of the game, giving him 500 points in his prolific career.
In his nine years in the NHL — all for Ottawa where he reportedly “never wants to leave” — Karlsson has scored 123 goals and 377 assists through 613 games.
Only one other European-born defenceman reached the 500-point marker faster: Borje Salming, who did it in 597 games.
