Edmonton Oilers defenceman Adam Larsson has been named the team’s nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy by the Edmonton chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.
The award is given to the player who most exemplifies “perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.” The recipient will be announced as part of the league’s award show in June.
Larsson’s father, Robert, died Feb. 1 after he suffered a heart attack while in Edmonton. The former Swedish league defenceman was 50.
Larsson returned to game action with the Oilers on Feb. 17 after his father’s death. He has four goals and 12 points in 57 games.
