As Mark Stone led the red-hot Ottawa Senators to a playoff-clinching victory over the Philadelphia Flyers Saturday, the hockey world discussed his case for the Calder Trophy. So did long-time captain, Daniel Alfredsson. He tweeted his support for the high-scoring rookie:

Stone, a sixth-round draft pick in 2010, has been outstanding during the Senators’ playoff push, quickly establishing himself as one of the league’s top rookies and conjuring up plenty of rookie of the year talk.

The 22-year-old right winger has 26 goals and 38 assists for 64 points in 80 games in his first full season and has been an integral part of the Senators making it to the playoffs. He is currently riding a nine-game point streak and has had two two-goal games in the Senators’ last three matches.

The recently-retired Alfredsson spent 17 seasons with the Senators and remains the most beloved player in franchise history. The former captain holds several club records, including games played (1,178), points (1,108), goals (426) and assists (682).

Alfredsson, who was also a sixth-round draft pick (1994), received the Calder Trophy in 1996 after a 61-point season.

After the game, Senators goalie Andrew Hammond also tweeted Calder support for his teammate:
