If you thought Connor McDavid’s performance in the Fastest Skater competition on Friday in San Jose was impressive, wait until you catch a glimpse of Anthony Greco.
The Springfield Thunderbirds forward beat out McDavid’s time in the AHL’s running of the Fastest Skater competition on Sunday, finishing with a blistering time of 13.251. Check out the footage above, it’s quite a sight to behold.
Quite the impressive feat for the 25-year-old, if we do say so ourselves.
For further context, Greco’s time was not only faster than McDavid’s time (13.378) by 0.127 seconds, and an AHL record, it also trumped plenty of other NHL speedsters, including Jack Eichel (13.582), Mathew Barzal (13.780) and Elias Pettersson (13.930).
Here’s a look at McDavid’s winning time on Friday for those interested in comparing his run to Greco’s.
McDavid’s speed has helped him win the NHL’s Fastest Skater event three years running now. But if Greco is able to crack an NHL roster and be eligible for the competition some time down the line, the Oilers superstar could have his work cut out for him defending his title.
Greco has been a journeyman in minor hockey since the 2015-16, but did appear in a regular season game for the Florida Panthers this season back on Dec. 13 against the Minnesota Wild.
