Colorado Avalanche defenceman Samuel Girard has been fined $1,957.89 for his hit on Chicago Blackhawks forward Alex DeBrincat late in the third period of Wednesday’s game in Chicago.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Girard hit DeBrincat into the boards from the goal-line after the Blackhawks’ winger took a shot, leading to a scrum with just over six minutes to play. DeBrincat required attention from the trainer on the ice.

Girard was not penalized on the play. The Avalanche went on to win 4-1.

This was not the first incident involving these two players. The pair fought during the meeting between the Blackhawks and Avalanche on Nov. 30.
