Bettman: NHL expansion process open to Seattle

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman joined Elliott Price and Rob Wong on the Starting Lineup to discuss the NHL's interest in the Seattle and why it is a premier market for the league.

Gary Bettman announced on Thursday that the NHL has agreed to open the expansion process to a team in Seattle.

The process is going to be similar to the Vegas Golden Knights expansion and will reportedly cost $650 million, and if an expansion team is ultimately located in Seattle it will not be until the 2020-21 season.

This process does not guarantee that a team will eventually play in Seattle, but over the next few months the city is allowed to have a season-ticket drive to gauge interest in hosting an NHL franchise.

Seattle is the only city open to the application process.
