Paul Bissonnette is used to getting into confrontations with NHL enforcers on the ice. However, the Phoenix Coyotes forward currently finds himself in a quarrel with adult film star Bibi Jones on the radio.

Jones is famous for –among other things– recently hanging out with Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots.

Prior to her encounter with Gronkowski, Jones and Bissonnette had gone on a date earlier this year that became a popular subject on Twitter.

Jones was a guest on the Jeff Blair show on Sportsnet 590 The Fan Friday where she had some less than flattering things to say about Bissonnette, even calling him a “douche bag.” Gasp.

Bissonnette was a guest on the Eric Smith Show later on Friday to clear his name.

“This isn’t the first time (she has insulted me on radio),” Bissonnette said.

“She tried to go on a Phoenix radio station I go on all the time and basically try to slander my name. I went on there to defend myself and I guess I have to do the same here.”

The two are frequent guests on an Arizona radio show and that’s where they first met. Bissonnette talks hockey, while Jones tells stories of encounters with athletes and celebrities, among others.

“We went on a date and basically she told me that 95 per cent of what she says on the radio she lies about to get a rise out of people and obviously to build her brand and be famous,” Bissonnette said. “Do what you got to do to get famous, but if you take that approach to it, karma’s going to come around and get you.”

Bissonnette realizes there’s a stigma associated with women in the adult entertainment industry but said when they went on their date he was just there “to meet some girl and have dinner and conversation.”

Bissonnette insists he was a gentleman on their date.

“That’s why I’m baffled by this experience,” Bissonnette said.

The enforcer admitted it wasn’t the most fun date of all time and won’t be going on another one with her anytime soon.

Although he averages just over six minutes of ice time per game in the NHL, Bissonnette is one of the leagues more popular players. The Welland, Ont., native has over 155,000 followers on Twitter.

Fans can watch Bissonnette in action when his 4-3-2 Phoenix Coyotes host the 6-2-1 Los Angeles Kings Saturday. And, in all likelihood, fans can see Jones in action in various corners of the internet.
