Brent Seabrook has spent his entire NHL career with the Chicago Blackhawks, but the times they are a-changin’ and the team has approached the defenceman and asked if he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday during the Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada that Seabrook to this point has said no to that request but that the team could still look to test the market for any interest in the veteran blueliner.
Seabrook was selected 14th overall by the Blackhawks in the 2003 NHL Draft and his 1,056 games played ranks second-most in franchise history behind only Stan Mikita.
The 33-year-old three-time Stanley Cup champion might not be an easy commodity to trade away, though, as he has an annual salary cap hit of $6.875-million that runs through 2024.
Barring an improbable turnaround, the Blackhawks are on pace to miss the playoffs for a second consecutive season for the first time in more than a decade. The team has won just three total playoff games since they last hoisted the Stanley Cup in 2015.
