The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with restricted free agent defenceman Nick Leddy on a two-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

“We are pleased to announce that Nick will remain a core member of our organization,” Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said in a press release. “Over the course of the past three seasons, Nick has shown continuous development and we think he will be essential to our long-term success.”

The 22-year-old Eden Prairie, Minn., native ranked third among Blackhawks defencemen with 18 points (6 goals, 12 assists) and a plus-15 rating in 48 regular-season games. He added two assists in the Blackhawks’ 23 playoff games on the way to winning the Stanley Cup.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to remain in Chicago and be a part of this special group of young, experienced players on a team in a winning environment,” Leddy said. “The organization is first class both on and off the ice, and I am honored to be a member of the Chicago Blackhawks.”

The 6-0, 191-pound defenceman has tallied 62 points (13 goals, 49 assists) in 176 career regular-season games with the Blackhawks.

Leddy was originally selected by the Minnesota Wild 16th overall in the 2009 NHL draft.
