The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed Cam Atkinson on the injured reserve with a right ankle sprain, the team announced on Thursday.

Atkinson suffered the injury during the Blue Jackets’ game against the Los Angeles Kings on Dec. 19, leaving after only logging nine minutes of ice time. He went on to miss Columbus’ next two games leading up to the holiday break before being placed on the injured reserve.

Through 35 games with Columbus this year, the 30-year-old has scored nine goals and added 12 assists.

In a corresponding move, the Blue Jackets recalled left winger Jakob Lilja, centre Ryan MacInnis and defencemen Grabriel Carlsson and Adam Clendening to their roster on an emergency recall basis from their AHL Affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters.

The Blue Jackets, winners of five-straight games, will return to action on Friday on the road against the Washington Capitals.
