The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenceman Ryan Murray to a two-year contract.

Murray, 25, was set to become a restricted free agent.

“Ryan Murray is an elite puck-moving defenceman with excellent vision and we are excited that he will continue to be an important part of the young and talented blue line we have in Columbus,” said Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen in a statement. “He has battled injuries early in his career, but he is still a young player with great upside and we believe his best seasons are ahead of him.”

Originally a first-round pick by the Blue Jackets in 2012, Murray had one goal and 29 points in 56 games last season.
