The St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Wednesday the team has granted goaltender Martin Brodeur a one-week leave of absence.
Brodeur is expected to rejoin the club in a week’s time when his future with the team will be addressed.
The 42-year-old future Hall of Famer has appeared in seven games for the Blues this season, posting a 3-3-0 record to go along with a 2.87 goals-against average, a .899 save-percentage and one shutout.
Brodeur last played Jan. 2 vs. Anaheim but ever since Brian Elliott returned from injury a day later it wast clear how Brodeur fit into St. Louis’ plans. With Elliott and 24-year-old Jake Allen both healthy, Brodeur was left as the club’s third-string goalie.
Making Brodeur’s future cloudier is the Minnesota Wild, a team in desperate need for goaltending help, acquired Devan Dubnyk from the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday.
