Blues’ Oskar Sundqvist fined $5K for roughing Blackhawks’ Boqvist

Watch as Vince Dunn and Drake Caggiula have a spirited fight after Oskar Sundqvist takes down Adam Boqvist with a hit.

St. Louis Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable amount under the collective bargaining agreement, for roughing Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Adam Boqvist.

The incident occurred late in the second period of the Blues’ 2-0 win Sunday. As Boqvist flipped the puck out of the Blackhawks zone, Sundqvist attempted to throw a hit on him. But instead of a normal shoulder-to-shoulder hit, Sundqvist initially missed Boqvist then swung his left arm around, connecting with Boqvist’s head and sending them both to the ice.

Boqvist lost his helmet and was slow to get up but eventually made his way to the Blackhawks bench with a towel against his face. He didn’t return to the game and the team later said he is under concussion protocol.

Sundqvist was given a two-minute minor for roughing on the play and five other players were also given penalties from a melee that ensued shortly after.
