Blues place Brian Elliott on LTIR with lower-body injury

Tomas Hertl scored twice, followed by Logan Couture scoring twice, followed by Joe Thornton’s two goals to get the Sharks a 6-3 win over the Blues.

The St. Louis Blues have placed goaltender Brian Elliott on long-term injured reserve with a lower-body injury, the team announced Tuesday via release.

Elliott was hurt in the first period of the Blues’ 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks Monday. He will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

The 30-year-old netminder had a 2.14 goals-against average and the league’s third-best save percentage at .929 to go along with a 17-7-6 record.

The Blues have recalled goaltender Pheonix Copley from their American Hockey League affiliate Chicago Wolves.

Jake Allen returned from injured reserve over the weekend and will likely carry the bulk of goaltending duties for the Blues. The 25-year-old has a 2.18 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage in 34 appearances this season.

St. Louis currently sit in third place in the Central Division with a 35-18-9 record.
