Blues sign Jay Bouwmeester to one-year contract extension

The St. Louis Blues have signed defenceman Jay Bouwmeester to a one-year, $3.25-million contract extension.

Bouwmeester, 35, appeared in 78 games for the Blues this season, scoring three goals and 17 points.

The Blues acquired Bouwmeester in a trade with the Calgary Flames in 2013. He is currently in the final season of a five-year, $27-million contract and was due to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

In 1,184 career games with the Florida Panthers, Flames and Blues, Bouwmeester has 87 goals, 415 points and 615 penalty minutes.
