The Boston Bruins have invited forward Ville Leino to their training camp for a professional tryout, the team’s general manager Peter Chiarelli told reporters Friday.

In June, the Buffalo Sabres used a compliance buyout on Leino after the Finnish forward ended his season with no goals and 15 assists in 58 games. James Wright of the Winnipeg Jets was the only forward in the NHL to play more goalless games (59) than Leino last season.

The 30-year-old spent three seasons with the Sabres after signing a six-year, $27-million contract as a free agent during the summer of 2011. Leino registered just 10 goals, 36 assists and a minus-18 rating in 137 total games in Buffalo.

Leino will now look to compete for a job on a Bruins team that is also bringing in veteran sniper Simon Gagne for a tryout.

In other Bruins news, the team signed winger Matt Fraser to a one-year, two-way deal. They also inked Steve Eminger, the 12th-overall pick from the 2002 NHL Draft, to an American Hockey League contract and Chiarelli expects him to attend camp.
