MONTREAL — Andreas Engqvist was called up by the Montreal Canadiens on Monday from their AHL affiliate.

The six-foot-one, 201-pound centre is third on the Hamilton Bulldogs in scoring with 13 goals and 11 assists in 29 games. He has a team-best defensive rating of plus-7.

The 24-year-old native of Stockholm, Sweden, blocked four shots and averaged 6:51 of ice time in nine games with the Canadiens earlier this season.

Engqvist signed with Montreal as a free agent on July 13, 2009.
