Canadiens sign Vasili Demchenko to one-year, entry-level contract

The Montreal Canadiens have signed free-agent goaltender Vasili Demchenko to a one-year, entry-level contract for the 2020-21 season, general manager Marc Bergevin announced Tuesday.

The two-way deal will see Demchenko earn $700,000 in the NHL and $70,000 in the AHL, with a signing bonus of $92,500.

Demchenko played in 36 games for Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk in the KHL during the 2019-20 season, picking up nine wins while posting a 2.77 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.

The 26-year-old, who made his KHL debut in 2011, has an 81-86-25 record — including 12 shutouts — in 212 contests with Chelyabinsk (198 games) and Magnitogorsk (14 games).
