Canadiens’ Tinordi ejected after questionable hit

In a preseason tilt with the Washington Capitals, Montreal Canadiens defenceman Jarred Tinordi threw a high elbow at the head of Nate Schmidt. Tinordi was assessed a game misconduct for the hit, while Schmidt apparently passed concussion protocol.

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Jarred Tinordi could receive further discipline for his hit on Capitals’ Nate Schmidt during Washington’s 2-0 victory on Sunday.

Tinordi, who played 22 games with the Habs last year, was shown the exit two minutes into the final period when the defender hit an unsuspecting Schmidt in the face with his shoulder. Tinordi was given five minutes and a game misconduct. The 22-year-old had already been penalized twice in the match — for tripping and for kneeing in the first period.
