Canadiens trade Smith-Pelly to Devils for Stefan Matteau

CHL insider Sam Cosentino discusses the Montreal Canadiens top prospects, which he isn’t exactly that fond of, but thinks Michael McCarron’s game could translate in the NHL.

The Montreal Canadiens traded forward Devante Smith-Pelly to the New Jersey Devils for Stefan Matteau.

Since being acquired by the Canadiens last season in a deal that sent Jiri Sekac to the Anaheim Ducks, Smith-Pelly has struggled to produce on offence. In 66 total games with Montreal, the 23-year-old scored just seven goals.
