Canucks’ Alberts to be sidelined 6-8 weeks

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Andrew Alberts will undergo wrist surgery Wednesday and will be out 6-8 weeks, sources tell Sportsnet.

Andrew Alberts became the team’s latest defenceman to go down with an injury when he suffered a broken wrist during Monday’s 3-2 loss to St. Louis.

He joins defencemen Dan Hamhuis (concussion), Alex Edler (back), Keith Ballard (knee) and Lee Sweatt (foot) on the sidelines.

On Tuesday, the Canucks recalled Yann Sauve from AHL Manitoba on Tuesday to help patch up their battered blue-line.

Sauve is a second-round pick from 2008 who is in his first pro season.

The 20-year-old appeared in 20 games for the AHL’s Moose, recording three assists and eight penalty minutes.

Alberts had one goal and seven points in 42 games for the Canucks this year.
