The Vancouver Canucks have announced their leadership group for the 2019-20 season, but are waiting to name a captain.

Head coach Travis Green said the captain won’t be announced until the team’s home opener against the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 9.

“We are going to name a captain this season,” Green said. “It’s a special moment, something our fans should be able to witness firsthand. We’ll make the announcement Wednesday at our home opener.”

Defencemen Chris Tanev and Alexander Edler, as well as forwards Brandon Sutter and Bo Horvat, will serve as assistant captains this season.

The Canucks haven’t had a captain since Henrik Sedin retired at the end of the 2017-18 season.
