Vancouver Canucks fans could get a glimpse of the future on the weekend, as the team announced Friday goalie Thatcher Demko has been recalled from the AHL’s Utica Comets under emergency conditions.

Demko has a .921 save percentage, 2.49 goals-against average and 23-12-4 record in 42 appearances with the Comets this season. The 22-year-old Boston College alumnus was selected by the Canucks in the second round (36th overall) of the 2014 draft.

The Canucks, winners of three straight, host the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday afternoon but it’s unclear at this time what Demko’s role in the game will be.

Jacob Markstrom and backup Anders Nilsson have split duties in the Canucks’ crease this season, however, the team is allowing 3.15 goals per game, which was sixth-worst in the NHL entering Friday’s action. Nilsson is currently dealing with an illness, which resulted in the call-up.
