Capitals sign centre Mike Sgarbossa to two-year contract

The Washington Capitals have signed centre Mike Sgarbossa to a two-year, two-way contract, the team announced Saturday.

The deal will be worth an average annual value of $700,000 and $407,500 in the AHL.

The 26-year-old led the AHL’s Hershey Bears last season with 30 goals and 65 points, which tied for ninth in the AHL and set personal AHL career highs in goals, assists and points.

The Campbellville, Ont., native has recorded two goals and 10 points in 48 career NHL games with the Anaheim Ducks, Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche. In 387 AHL games on six different teams, Sgarbossa has recorded 102 goals and 264 points.
