Capitals’ Tom Wilson has appeal hearing scheduled for Thursday

Hockey Night in Canada broadcaster Jim Hughson joined Tim and Sid to discuss the suspension handed down by the NHL to Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson and preview the opening night of the season.

Suspended Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson‘s appeal hearing has been scheduled for Thursday. The first appeal is heard by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and can go to a neutral arbitrator after that.

Wilson was suspended 20 games for his illegal check to the head on St. Louis Blues centre Oskar Sundqvist during a pre-season matchup.

The NHL granted Wilson “non-roster player” status earlier this week while he serves his suspension.

If Wilson’s 20-game ban is upheld, the earliest he would be eligible to return to Washington’s lineup would be Nov. 21.
