The Washington Capitals have traded Marcus Johansson to the New Jersey Devils for a pair of draft picks in 2018.

Johansson has spent his entire seven-year career with the Capitals organization. The 26-year-old recorded a career-best 58 points on 24 goals and 34 assists in 2016-17.

A native of Sweden, the left-winger also notched two goals and six assists during Washington’s playoff run before being eliminated by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round.

Washington is coming off of a second consecutive Presidents’ Trophy-winning season, but once again failed to live up to expectations in the post-season.

The trade with the Devils serves as a cost-cutting move as Johansson has two years left on his contract and carries a $4.58 million cap hit per season.
