Gotta See It: NHL sweater on ‘Antiques Roadshow’

A Chicago Black Hawks sweater was appraised for big bucks on Antiques Roadshow. (Antiques Roadshow)

Even though Virgil Johnson scored as many points during the 1938 Chicago Black Hawks’ run to the Stanley Cup championship as you did, his 77-year-old sweater is worth as much as $10,000.

Tracy, whose husband is the grandson of Johnson, brought the defenceman’s wool jersey to PBS’s Antiques Roadshow in Austin, Texas, where it was appraised at $7,000 to $10,000.

Johnson — seen here sporting the Black Hawks (two words!) sweater — registered one goal and 12 points in 75 NHL games. A native of Minnesota, he was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 1974.

Who knows? Without the moth holes, Johnson’s “museum-quality” jersey may be worth even more.
