Claude Giroux may need surgery on his hip, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
“There’s some rumblings about Claude Giroux and whether or not he’s healthy,” Friedman said on Hockey Night in Canada Wednesday. “He looked injured at the end of the season. There’s a possibility there could be some surgery on his hip area. We should get some clarity about that. The hope is that he’ll be ready for the World Cup.”
The World Cup takes place in September, but the final rosters will be announced in early June. Giroux was not one of the first 16 named to Team Canada.
Giroux had just one assist and 10 shots on goal in six playoff games this season. He finished the regular season with 67 points in 78 games, the fifth-best total for his career.
