Craig Anderson’s wife Nicholle diagnosed with cancer

Senators' GM Pierre Dorion updates the media on the Anderson family situation.

Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson‘s wife Nicholle has been diagnosed with cancer.

The team had granted Anderson a leave of absence for personal reasons on Thursday, though general manager Pierre Dorion told reporters that the 35-year-old will return to the club soon.

Backup goaltender Andrew Hammond, who was forced to leave Friday’s game against Calgary with an injury, was placed on IR.

The Senators recalled Matt O’Connor from AHL Binghamton on Saturday, and both he and Chris Driedger are expected to remain with the team in the short term until Anderson is ready to play again.

Ottawa’s next game is against Edmonton on Sunday.
