Devils goalie gets face-painted David Puddy Devils mask

“Hey man, I’m just trying to support the team.”

Those wise words were famously said by actor Patrick Warburton (also known as David Puddy) in an episode of Seinfeld called “The Face Painter.”

So either Albany Devils goaltender Scott Wedgewood has a great sense of humour or is just a man on top of pop culture references because the 23-year-old is using a picture of a face-painted Puddy on his new goalie mask.

In case you didn’t watch the show or get the reference, Puddy was an aggressive Devils fan that, even as an adult, would paint his face while attending hockey games.

You can see the displeased reaction of his girlfriend, Elaine Benes (played by Julia-Louis Dreyfus), below.

Later in the episode, Puddy got a bit too excited after the Devils beat the New York Rangers in a playoff game and was giving his friend the business before screaming at a visiting pastor from El Salvador, who immediately becomes convinced Puddy is the Devil himself.

It’s unclear when Wedgewood plans to rock the new mask for the first time but it’s an incredible design from David Gunnarsson of DAVEART.

Wedgewood has yet to appear in an AHL game for Albany this season, per hockeydb.com, after signing a two-way contract with the New Jersey Devils this past summer.

It’s entirely possible that this is a Halloween costume but either way, it’s awesome.
